Safari Holidays

Safari holidays are one of the most increasingly popular holiday activity. They allow us to experience watching wild animals in their natural habitat. Kenya has had the first commercial safari holidays, a form of recreation that grew out of big game hunting at the turn of the century. As animal stocks diminished and hunting became less fashionable, people turned to viewing the animals instead.

Safari now generates an important amount of revenue for several African countries. These include Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia.

There are different types from small tented camps that are seasonal and removed during the rainy seasons, to large permanent structures with over 100 rooms. The game-viewing can be done on foot, horseback, in vehicles or indeed by elephant back or boat, depending on the type of terrain and the animals being viewed.

The idea of a safari is to see the Big Five, a term that has been borrowed from the days of hunting and refers to: Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Lion and Rhino

When you go on safari you are actually taking part in one of life’s last great adventures and the word from the bush is that safaris are likely to get a lot more adventurous still in 2018, the industry’s response to demand from those looking for an extra dash of adrenalin.

Most safari newcomers are keen to see the Big Five: elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. But after an initial bush baptism, you might be tempted to stray off the regular tourist trail, sign up for a walking safari, go gorilla tracking, seek out a remote destination, or choose one of the less visited parks such as Kafue in Zambia.

Africa safaris: the ultimate wildlife-viewing holidays

Africa is passionate about the wildlife. Home of the great migration, the Big Five, mountain gorillas and far more, there's nowhere better for a wildlife-watching holiday. In Swahili, the word ‘safari’ means ‘to go on a journey’ and an Africa safari offers a real adventure; the chance to travel deep into true wilderness and stray off the tourist trail.

Travel by road, bumping along dusty tracks, taking in the vast, rolling landscapes and spotting wildlife along the way; or take to the skies for spectacular aerial views, flying in to tiny national park airstrips where lions roam the runway. No matter how many wildlife documentaries you’ve seen, nothing can prepare you for the real thing.

Some people enjoy a more sociable experience with like-minded travelers, while others love the thrill of an independent adventure, so luxury safaris are divided into escorted small group safaris and independent tailor-made safaris, where you’ll have your own private driver/guide. Whether it is your first time treading the wilds of Africa, or you fell under its spell many visits ago, a safari holiday is what u need.
